Title: Peer Assisted Learning System (PALS)

Creator: Japari Ngilari

Date: October, 2018

Venue: Design & Development Showcase, AECT International Convention

Overview:

  • The Peer Assisted Learning System is a web-based peer tutoring application for higher education that matches registered student tutors to prospective tutees.
  • The basis for this match is a matrix of pedagogical fit, tutee need and tutor availability.
  • The empirical foundation for this developmental effort is drawn from Vygotsky’s work on sociocultural theory of learning which stipulates in part that individual abilities can be extended via social support (scaffolding).
  • PALS was developed using the C#/ASP.NET MVC framework, HTML, Javascript & CSS.

Creator: Japari Ganama

Date: June, 2019

Overview:

  • Mathy! is an elementary unit of instruction suited for touch-screen devices; it is an introductory lesson on numbers suited for three year olds.
  • The young learner should at the end of the lesson be well-familiarized with the numbers 1 to 5.
  • It is deployed in a format that ideally is self-directed with little guidance from the parent or guardian.
  • An interactive prototyping tool by name – proto.io, was used to develop an early version of this software in conjunction with a modified course outline obtained from OER Commons by Smiles for Learning (2018)
